Globalization of the EPL

Globalization of the English Premier League:

By: Brian Mars

Over the most recent years, the EPL has begun to bring in worldwide viewers from countries that haven't really been invested in Football like others. For example, Christian Pulisic has brought such a large fanbase from America to his team in Chelsea. Year after year the EPL has to compete with ratings and viewers against its neighboring leagues like La Ligue or Bundesliga and always the EPL is close within competition. Within the most recent years though, the EPL has begun to rise and to take over La Ligue and Bundesliga, drawing in stars like Ronaldo and De Bruyne, arguably the two best players in soccer right now. I think that the fact that the EPL now has stars like Ronaldo, De Bruyne and soon enough De Bruyne, this also helps improve the status and ranking of revenue that the EPL will make from Jersey sales, ticket sales, etc. Last time the EPL had a star like this was near the inaugural year of Ronaldo on Manchester United, who also featured England finest football player of all time, David Beckham. Now with Ronaldo back and talks of maybe De Bruyne coming to the EPL, the EPL can look forward to a very busy season of ticket sales and merchandise sales.

Revenue and Merchandising:

The EPL also draws in a fanbase like no other. The support that these fans give to their homes team isn’t seen in any other countries, especially in the states. The loyalty is non-comparable and so is the bickering. The fans get so passionate that people come to games sometimes to just watch the fans interact and they’ll disregard the match as its played. This helps draw in also more fans globally because if you watch a game and see how strongly one teams supports that team, then you’ll want to cheer for that time yourself. Lastly, the EPL has drawn in such a crowd globally lately, due to the fact that NBC Sports continues to broadcast the EPL every weekend in the states. I have even found myself on a Saturday watching the beauty of the sport. Branding has also played a large role in the globalization of the EPL. Nike and Adidas are the main sponsors and are continuing to improve the merchandise and jersey for the EPL. Due to this the EPL, is currently on the rise and is continuing to soar.
