Young Talent in the EPL
Bright Future for the EPL:
Throughout the recent years, the EPL has gained a massive following from around the world. With other leagues competing for bragging rights of best league in the world, the EPL has always been in that conversation. When analyzing the EPL and trying to figure out reasons for its success, I came across one main point, young talent
The EPL is flourishing right now with the young and bright talent that this new wave of all-stars brings in. For example, one of the many stars, is Bukayo Saka. Saka is young prodigy out of the United Kingdom. He is currently 20 years old and he already has a starting role for one of England top teams, Arsenal. He is listed as the best player currently on the roster and he is only 20. Saka has already been noted as one of the most exciting people to watch in the EPL and has one of the brighter futures in the league. His fame started to take off when he lifted England to a EURO 2020 championship appearance where they unfortunately lost to Italy in extra time. Another bright star that has come out of the EPL and is showing very promising results of his work is Jadon Sancho. Sancho has uplifted the English national team and Manchester United. Sancho was bought out by Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund for a loan of close to $100 million when converted to USD. Sancho has been a role model to new up and coming stars throughout the UK and Europe. He found a way to make such a large impact in the Bundesliga including scoring 50 goals and getting 64 assists before the age of 20. True talent!!
When comparing these young stars to young stars in the States, I would say that the young talent out of Europe is far more impressive. Not only including the EPL, they’re stars these young all around Europe. For example, one of the best athletes on the planet right now, Kylian Mbappe, is only 23 years old, but at the age of 21, he led France to a world cup championship and led the team in goals to go along with that. In the states, our young talent are known for their promising future not so much of what they bring to the table in their rookie year. In Europe, these young stars come in and have to make an impact immediately or else its next man up, which I believe is better because it brings out more competition and more heart into the game.

Some notable other young stars are Pedri, Foden, and Gravenberch. These stars are the future of European futbol and I am excited to see who steps up to the occasion. As Messi and Ronaldo get older, it will be interesting to see who takes the reigns of becoming the next future legends of the game.
ReplyDeleteThe phenomenon in European futbol of how young players go into a professional league is definitely different than just about any other sport. When hearing that a 16 year old scored a goal in La Liga (Pedri), it would be weird if someone didn't drop their jaw. I agree in how that phenomenon has caused the EPL to become so popular, as people enjoy watching such young kids competing on the highest level and observing how they deal with the pressure that comes along with it. It creates players that people come to admire and be astonished by.
ReplyDeleteBoth Sancho and Saka are great, but I think Phil Foden also deserves some mentioning. He is by far one of the best youngsters in the PL, and a debate could be made about him being better than Sancho and Saka, with a potentially brighter future too. Interesting that you mention Mbappe since he's not in the EPL, though I'd love to see him go there someday.
ReplyDeleteBukayo Saka along with another Arsenal youngster Emile Smith Rowe are essentially the life line of the gunners squad. Both play beyond their age and it is evident on the pitch that even in their youth they are natural born leaders. Young players are truly what make a team special, look at what the likes of Pedri and Gavi have done in revitalizing the FC Barcelona squad, and they are both younger than 20. The future of football is in very good hands and I am excited to see how all of these young stars progress.
ReplyDeleteI like how this article identifies specific types of young rising players in the EPL. In my opinion, the EPL is substantially the strongest and most depth centered league in the world. While other leagues also have young stars it is not to the extent of EPL. Bukayo Saka is also one of my favorite young players as I love his style of play and energy he plays with.
ReplyDeleteI think that Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden both deserve their dues, with Trent being ones of the best fullbacks in the world at 23, and Foden receiving substantial play-time on one of the best teams in Europe. Still, I love how this article breaks down the different classifications of young players in the EPL, as well as highlighting the depth of the league in comparison to the other European leagues.
